A DISCUSSION WITH THE DIRECTOR… JACK AND THE BEANSTALK

Jack and the Beanstalk Director Andrew Faber spills the beans on his Unbound theatre experience and directing a panto this year!

What draws you to directing a QPAC panto? Tell us a little bit about your experience on or behind stages!

Well, I’m lucky enough to have over 30 years experience of working in Pantomimes both large and small. Usually onstage and sometimes in the band, but also directing and/or fight directing.

A QPAC panto is something special. Its a combination of the intimate environment, the close knit bond of the cast and crew and a complete lack of pretension. Its ’homespun’ in exactly the right way!

You’ve been involved in QPAC pantos since the 90s – How do those ones compare to the pantos now?

I’d say, very favourably. We have more tech now, and a bigger choice of costumes etc, but the talent, passion & ethos is every bit as good as it was.

What is unique about this production of Jack and the Beanstalk?

It’s tempting to say… Come and find out!

But seriously, we have a lovely combination of tradition, slick and funny writing and new approaches to characters. And all in a bright and welcoming setting!

What excites you most about directing Jack and the Beanstalk?

For me, it’s the chance to create Magic! For that’s what Panto is!

For every audience member, old or young, the chance to make them smile is a real privilege…

Jack & The Beanstalk is the third in QPAC’s four-panto season this December, showing on the 20-21 December at 2pm and 6.30pm. The performance on Saturday 20 Dec at 2pm will be Signed by Marie Biswell from Hand Talking.
