QPAC OPEN DAY 2021

Queens Park Arts Centre is encouraging people to kick-start their creativity this autumn, as it hosts a special open day to showcase all manner of artistic activities the local community can get involved with.

On Saturday 11th September the Centre will be opening up its bespoke studio spaces with a wide variety of free taster sessions exploring all manner of different artforms, from pottery and painting to woodwork, needlecraft and jewellery making. QPAC’s tutors will be on hand to demonstrate their craft and give visitors a chance to try their hand at a new skill.

“As we continue our journey out of lockdown there’s never been a better time to take up a new hobby,” says Queens Park’s artistic director Sarah Lewis. “As well as creative activities being a great way to support your wellbeing, our friendly, welcoming workshops are also a great way to socialise.”

QPAC offers an eclectic range of classes for all ages, ranging from weekly workshops running throughout the term to one-off sessions and fixed-term short courses. Students can take up a class at any time during the year with full details of the sessions on offer available at www.queensparkarts.com.

In addition to the arty activities there’ll be live entertainment too, with music, drama and dance performances from various groups based at the centre including in-house production company Unbound. Many groups also run workshops at QPAC and will be on hand to share information on how you can get involved.

Finally, there’ll be beautiful handmade art and craft on display and on sale in Queens Park’s Artisan exhibition spaces, plus a selection of rarely-seen material from the centre’s extensive archive. Refreshments will be on sale in the coffee bar and free parking is available on site.

“Our Open Day is a chance to celebrate the amazing creative community who populate Queens Park,” says Sarah. “But it’s all about welcoming new people, too. We’ve opportunities for all ages and can’t wait to share details of these creative activities with the local community.”

Queens Park Arts Centre’s Open Day takes place on Saturday 11th September from 11am to 3pm, and is free to attend. The event is being held as part of Heritage Open Days 2021.
